Your Lindy, On the Phone
Your personal Lindy gets its own number. Call it from your phone and talk to the assistant that knows your email, calendar, and meetings, or have it call you, or call someone else for you.
Getting Set Up
- Click your workspace image at the top left, select Settings, then Phone.
- Click Get a number (you can pick a US or Canadian area code). If you already pay for a Lindy number nothing uses, Lindy offers to use that one instead, at no extra cost.
- Verify your phone in Settings → General if you haven’t. Calls from your verified phone reach your full assistant.
When You Call Your Lindy
Call your Lindy’s number from your verified phone and you get your full assistant: email, calendar, tasks, and anything else it can do in chat. Ask it to read your schedule, draft a reply, or look something up. It keeps talking while it works, and hangs up when you say goodbye. You can also have it call you:- Click the phone button next to the paperclip on the Chats page.
- Or just ask: “Call me” in chat or by text.
When Others Call Your Lindy
Anyone else who calls your Lindy reaches it answering for you. Under When others call your Lindy you decide how:- Instructions: what it says and asks, and what it may tell callers. Anything you don’t write stays private: it never shares your email, calendar, contacts, or files.
- Messages: callers can always leave a message. It reaches you right away, by text, Slack, or email.
Calling Others for You
Ask your Lindy to call someone (“Call Acme Dental and book a cleaning this week”) and it places the call from its number. It:- Says who it is and who it’s calling for, tells the truth if asked whether it’s an AI, and never pretends to be you.
- Gets through phone menus: presses the right keys, enters what the menu asks for, or asks for a representative.
- Leaves a short message on voicemail, then hangs up.
- Waits on hold for you.
- Can transfer the call to you when the person asks to talk to you.
Who Can Call, and When
- Active: turn the line off anytime. While it’s off, callers hear a busy signal and your Lindy places no calls.
- Only I can call: only your verified phone gets through.
- Blocked numbers: add any number to turn its calls away. Your own number is never blocked.
- US and Canada: your Lindy’s number can be a US or Canadian number, and it calls, and takes calls from, numbers in the US and Canada.
- Calling hours: your Lindy calls people (other than you) only between 8 AM and 9 PM their time. Outside those hours it offers to call at the next good time, and schedules it when you agree.
- Limits: up to 10 calls a day, and 3 calls a day to the same person. Calls to you don’t count.
- One number: your Lindy has one number. To switch, disconnect and release it in Settings → Phone, then get a new one.
- Recording: calls are recorded. Where the law requires everyone’s consent (several US states), your Lindy says up front that it’s an AI assistant and that the call is recorded.
- Emergencies: your Lindy can’t call 911 or other emergency numbers. If someone on a call describes an emergency, it tells them to hang up and call 911.
